Since graduating with a journalism degree from Indiana University, Michelle has written more than 1,000 articles for newspapers, magazines and websites; acted as a stringer for the Associated Press; written for a worldwide ministry; helped pen a New York Times Bestseller; and served as a blogger for Guideposts. Today, she is President of Platinum Literary Services—a premiere full-service literary firm—and she continues working as a TV host for TBN’s “Joy in Our Town” and successfully running her own freelance writing business.
When not working on her own assignments, Michelle ghostwrites books for celebrities, politicians, and some of today’s most effective and popular ministers. Michelle is also a much sought after teacher at writers conferences and universities around the nation. In fact, she has served as an adjunct professor at Taylor University twice, teaching “Writing for Children.” Michelle also loves speaking to women’s groups, youth groups, and congregations, encouraging others to discover their destinies in God.
Michelle is married to her high school sweetheart, Jeff, and they have two daughters, Abby and Allyson, as well as a miniature dachshund, a rescue Shepherd/Collie mix, and two cats. When not writing or teaching writing, Michelle enjoys bass fishing, watching Doris Day movies, and cheering on the Indiana University Basketball team and the Chicago Cubbies.
The Five F’s of a Writing Career: Freelance, Finance, Faith, Family and Fun—Getting it all done with grace and balance!
In this continuing class, we’ll explore what it takes to launch out into the freelance writing world and stay happily afloat! I’ll share with you all the tricks of the trade that have allowed me to run a successful freelance writing business (Michelle Medlock Adams, LLC) for the past 18 years. I hope you’ll join me for a practical, fast-moving, ever-so-fun, chocolate-filled kind of class.
Specifically, we’ll cover:
Turning Rejection into Publication
After being in this business for more than 25 years, (Yes I began at age 10, haha) Michelle Medlock Adams has enough rejection letters to wallpaper most of her home. But, that's all a part of the process. In this session, she will help writers "read between the lines" of their rejection letters; use the letters to their advantage; and finally, turn those rejection slips into contracts.
If This Is What Being a Writer Is, I'd Rather Have Chocolate
If you're feeling discouraged and confused, wondering if God can ever use your writing skills for Him, join Michelle Medlock Adams for this session. The life of a writer isn't always an easy one, but it is definitely worth it! If you need reminded that God uses imperfect people (even writers with lots of rejection slips and no best-selling books), join her for this inspirational session. This session is guaranteed to put the pep back in your step! :) (And, she will have chocolate for all who attend!)
