Revell began over 125 years ago when D. L. Moody and his brother-in-law Fleming H. Revell saw the need for practical books that would help bring the Christian faith to everyday life. From there, Fleming H. Revell Publishing developed consistently solid lists that included many notable Christian writers over the years. This same vision for books that are both inspirational and practical continues to motivate the Revell publishing group today. Whether publishing fiction, Christian living, self-help, marriage, family, or youth books, each Revell publication reflects relevance, integrity, and excellence.
In fiction we’re open to looking at most genres, but are particularly looking for: General Suspense, Romantic Suspense, strong Contemporary Fiction (especially some Contemporary Women’s Fiction), and strong Historical Fiction (not as much historical romance).
We are not looking at: Children’s or Middle Grade fiction, graphic novels, or most novels set outside the U.S. We are very, very selective about looking at the Young Adult genre.
In nonfiction we’re also looking at a variety of categories, but overall our best categories tend to be: Christian Living, Self Help, and Family/Relationships. Revell publishes books that inspire and equip readers, offering them hope and help for daily life. So if it fits within that frame, we’d love to see it.
We are very selective at the amount of personal story/memoir we look at, and we generally do not publish standalone devotionals or highly designed gift books/coffee table books. If your book has a strong bible study feel with less narrative writing style or focuses on some type of biblical justice or politics, we’re probably not the right fit.
Kelsey Bowen is an Acquisitions Editor at Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, where she’s worked for over five years. She has a bachelor’s degree in creative writing and, when she’s not editing, you can find her devouring books from her TBR list or writing her own fiction with a good cup of Starbucks coffee close by. She is also active in her church as a worship leader. She currently lives with her husband Kyle, their infant daughter Peyton, and her adorable Hava-doodle dog, Izzo, in Allendale, MI.
