Elk Lake is looking for all genres of fiction, from children’s books (complete with illustrations) to middle-grade to YA to adult, contemporary, Southern, Historical--Civil War, WWI, WWII, Speculative Fiction—no Amish. Rarely accept Westerns. Nonfiction—must have a “twist”—not the usual handling of subjects. No memoirs, Bible studies, devotionals, or poetry.
Deb Haggerty is a published author, freelance editor, and professional speaker. For over thirty years, she’s been writing stories and was published in over twenty books with fifty-plus articles. She earned a 2017 Golden Scrolls Merit Award for nonfiction editor.

Tips and Tricks for working with Editors & Publishers
To present yourself and your work successfully to an editor/publisher, you must have certain skills and documents. That any paper you submit to them is absolutely perfect is a necessity. That said, we’ll talk about ways to ensure you do what’s required to make that very important great first impression. In addition, we’ll talk about writers’ conferences in general and what you should hope to gain from them. This is an interactive seminar with questions and discussion actively encouraged.
